The haunting score to the classic psychological drama Taxi Driver remains one of the most memorable film soundtracks ever composed. Written by legendary film composer Bernard Herrmann, the music perfectly captures the film’s tense atmosphere and the unsettling inner world of its protagonist.
Combining smoky jazz textures with dark orchestral arrangements, Herrmann’s score mirrors the lonely, nocturnal streets of New York City portrayed in the film. The sultry saxophone melodies evoke the seductive glow of the city at night, while the brooding orchestration builds an undercurrent of psychological tension that reflects the descent of the character played by Robert De Niro.
Taxi Driver would become Herrmann’s final film score, recorded just hours before his death in 1975, giving the music an added sense of poignancy and historical significance. The result is a masterful blend of jazz, noir atmosphere and orchestral drama that continues to influence film composers decades later.
This remastered 180g vinyl reissue presents the iconic soundtrack with enhanced audio clarity, offering collectors and film music fans a definitive way to experience one of cinema’s most powerful and atmospheric scores.
